It's just a story, or is it?

Triggers set our stories in motion by creating thoughts, thoughts create feelings, and feelings drive  actions that have consequences.

What is a trigger?

A trigger is a situation that sets off a memory tape that can transport a person back to an pleasant or unpleasant event.  Triggers are activated by our 5 senses, sight, sound, smell, touch and taste.

I am more interested in what triggers stop you from performing your facial exercises.

This could be a long stressful day, a headache or feeling unwell, you might have aching arms and can't be bothered lifting them to do the exercises or you might be struggling with performing the exercises, finger placements are too hard for you or not understanding what I am saying. You might be struggling to log into the site and keep getting messages that you don't understand and simply give up. Trust me, people do it as you will learn later.

Once triggered, thoughts, feelings, actions and consequences follow.

Understanding your triggers will assist you in being more organized to create a contingency plan to complete your exercises, in the event something has diverted your routine.

The final result, (the consequence) will always be, "I have no time today to do my exercises" every single time.

The consequence is then, you have not done your exercises, and you may begin to fall behind.

Then, your story kicks in. You might feel powerless to start again (it might be the 50th time this happened), you may feel its all pointless that you will never get started or you might start feeling sorry for yourself that you "always" fail.

Your mind will kick in, trigger and you will default to your story.

The reasons this happens is deeply embedded in your subconscious mind.

So what do we do about it? How do we change?

We change by self reflection, and having a good hard look at ourselves in the Room Full of Mirrors.

To root out these triggers and refusing to listen to your mind tricks and your story, takes mental strength, time and effort and a willingness to look at yourself, wrinkles and all. (I could have said warts and all but wrinkles was more appropriate)

We are going to do this in the Room Full of Mirrors...(cue Psycho music)
